ALBAWABA - In a post on X, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the effects the ongoing Israeli aggression has on Gaza as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

Guterres called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, saying that it's the time more than ever to put an end to this dire onslaught. "Horror & starvation stalk the people of Gaza. Any further onslaught will make everything worse. Worse for Palestinian civilians, for the hostages, for all people of the region".

Earlier on Saturday, the UN Secretary-General held a news conference on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing adjacent to the Gaza Strip calling for the entry of humanitarian and medical aid to be allowed into the enclave immediately.

"Here from this crossing, we see the heartbreak and heartlessness of it all. A long line of blocked relief trucks on one side of the gates, the long shadow of starvation on the other," Guterres told the journalists.

Guterres added that it is time for Israel to allow the unwavering and unconditional entry of aid to Gaza, "It's time for an ironclad commitment by Israel for total, unfettered access for humanitarian goods throughout Gaza".

Farhan Haq, the UN deputy spokesperson, confirmed on Friday the UN chief's annual "solidarity trip" to Egypt and Jordan, which coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Haq mentioned that the UN chief will meet with humanitarian and aid workers in both countries.

Haq further mentioned that Guterres will visit the facilities of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) during his visit to Jordan.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 32,100+ people, with more than 72,400+ injuries.

Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
